Purple and Orange

Hmmm… this week it was a choice between inspire me thursday’s “purple and orange” and illustration friday’s “baby.” The latter stirred no thoughts at all, so purple and orange it was. Purple is not a colour that I use very often, and if I do, it is probably a very dull purple mix – cerulean blue and cadmium red producing one of my favourite grey-purple colours. But here, I tried for a strong purple on the sides of the boxes using Ultramarine Blue and Quin Red. I have to admit to being far more comfortable splashing the orange around. I’m not happy with the composition of this piece – it almost feels like two paintings and I did consider chopping it in half… perhaps I still will… Anyway, I gave purple and orange a shot. If the theme were brown I’d have no trouble at all!

  1. Please note: I received comment that the purple looks black… I assure you – it’s purple!
