Hiding

I have to do a self portrait art class in less than a fortnight. This will be an unusual experience because even taking the pictures as a lead up to the class have been a challenge. Who really likes looking at themselves? Anyway, I still have some more pictures to take as the class is mixed media and requires a variety of images. I took one of those images and began to sketch my face from it. It wasn’t long before I didn’t want to sketch any more and I returned to fiddling around with the background. My solution to this problem was simply to heavily crop the image and so it was not necessary to sketch or paint any more detail in the face. What makes this situation even funnier was that I was already “hiding” in the photo as my hair was covering half my face!

  1. I think cropping can be very effective on a number of fronts. It always seems less daunting to appraoch drawing “part” of an object as opposed to the entire object.
    Love the green.
